Aga Szot Art Studio is an idea to create a stimulating imaginative art studio where I can work on a regular basis and allow people to watch me painting and see an artist's work environment. It is a special experience watching artists at work, the process of creation.Just as with a traffic accident people are drawn by curiosity to slow down, to watch, to somehow feel part of the process. People stop and stay, and we become only a part of what is going on.
Recently, with remarkable clarity, world renown sculptor Richard Serra described the artistic process from a viewer's perspective, as he sees it.
"With any work of art, what happens is if you're open to seeing it, you probably have a sensation, and that sensation leads to an experience and that experience is private and deals with your background, where you were born, what you've been exposed to, who you know, what your education was; and it will lead to other ways of thinking about other things." Matthew Purdon, painter, SF CA
My new project also will allow people to visit the studio and talk to me about my art, so doubling as an educational venture.
Art is part of our humanity, something which adds to us as humans.
"Art is a necessary part of life, it is food for the soul. By creating, giving and receiving art, the depths of our spirit are revealed to ourselves and each other. Art is one of the primary methods of forming the cultural bonds of our human community, it links us with something greater than ourselves. Great art dissolves the boundaries between art, life, self, other and spirit." - Matthew Purdon
The purpose of art is to make us experience something: a feeling, an insight, a sense of connection to something greater than ourselves–that mystery that we are.
Kurt Vonnegut said, “We are trapped in the amber of the moment. There is no why.”
This could be another purpose of art: to fixate us in the amber of the moment. The questioning mind ceases for a moment and there is only experience.
This is why we need art and why the world would be impoverished without art and artists of all kinds.
